Mission:  To respond to the needs of high school graduates for financial assistance and academic reinforcement as they pursue college or post secondary education and training.

The Reverend John Nance Scholarship was established in January, 1974, by Washington Tabernacle Baptist Church as a living memorial to the strong and practical educational philosophies of the late pastor Reverend Dr. John E. Nance.

Students winning scholarships to defray academic expenses still have the dilemma of finding sufficient funds to purchase books, furnish laboratory fees, incidental items and if need be travel expenses.  The Nance Scholarship was designed to supplement other sources of financial support for the post-secondary educational experience.

Following the death of his widow, Regina Steele Nance, 1982, the scholarship fund was renamed the Reverend John and Regina Nance Memorial Scholarship in honor of the many years they worked together on behalf of the educational achievement of youth.

Contributions from many businesses, individuals, and corporations have made it possible to award over twelve hundred scholarships to date.  Students representing sixty public and private high schools have attended one hundred fifty five colleges, universities and technical schools.
